Vikings vs. Bears 2016 odds: Minnesota set as road favorites against Chicago for Monday night

The Minnesota Vikings will be looking to break out of a Monday Night Football slump when they take on the Chicago Bears as betting favorites.

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Vikings are 1-7 straight up and against the spread in their last eight appearances on Monday Night Football. The Vikings hope to turn their luck on Monday nights around this week on the road against the Chicago Bears.

Minnesota is a 4.5-point road favorite at Soldier Field at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In their last nine games against teams with losing records, the Vikings are 9-0 SU.

Outstanding play on defense and effective play on offense helped propel the Vikings to a 5-0 SU and ATS record, giving up only 12.6 points per game over that stretch. Last Sunday, the undefeated streak came to an end In a 21-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Minnesota’s shaky offensive line gave Sam Bradford little time to throw throughout the night, and the loss seemed to confirm what many believed; this year’s Vikings team is not built to come from behind.

The Vikings have won each of their last three games against Chicago. In the last seven games in this head-to-head series, Minnesota is 5-2 SU and ATS per the OddsShark NFL Database.

Betting Line / Total: Minnesota -4.5 / 40.5 Points

Trend: The Vikings are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against the Bears.

Trend: The Bears are 1-5 ATS in their last six games at home.

The Bears are just 1-6 SU and ATS this season, bringing their record to 2-10 SU and ATS over the team’s last 12 games. While Minnesota ranks last in the NFL in total yards, Chicago has the worst scoring offense in the league with just 15.9 points per game.

Jay Cutler is set to return from a thumb injury he sustained in Week 2 on Monday night, though that won’t necessarily spark the offense as the veteran quarterback struggled in his first two starts. Chicago is 11-4 SU in its last 15 Monday Night Football appearances.

Monday night’s total is set at 40.5 points. The UNDER is 5-1 in Minnesota’s last six games on the road.

With Chicago’s worst scoring offense in the league facing the best scoring defense in the league in Minnesota, points will likely be extremely hard to come by for the Bears. If the Bears hope to keep this game within striking distance, they will likely need a strong defensive effort, as they got in their 17-14 win over the Detroit Lions earlier this month.
