Falcons vs. Buccaneers 2016 odds: Atlanta looks to buck ATS losing trend on Thursday night

The Atlanta Falcons will be looking to pick up a win and a rare cover as the betting favorite on Thursday night on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Falcons are 3-8 straight up and 0-11 against the spread in their last 11 games as a betting favorite. The Falcons will try to snap out of their ATS slump as a favorite this Thursday night facing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road.

Atlanta is a 3.5-point road favorite in Tampa Bay at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. When these two teams met in Atlanta in Week 1, Tampa Bay won, 31-24, as a 2.5-point underdog.

The Falcons have the best offense in the NFL this season, leading the league in both total yards with 425.3 per game and scoring with 32.8 points per game. Matt Ryan is having a career year under center for Atlanta with the league lead in both passing yards (2,636) and passing touchdowns (19) through eight games, all while throwing just four interceptions.

Atlanta’s offense was on display in last Sunday’s 33-32 shootout win over the Green Bay Packers, bringing the team’s record to 5-3 SU and ATS on the season.

In their last three games against the Buccaneers, the Falcons are 0-3 SU and ATS. The favorite is 19-3 SU in the last 22 meetings between these two teams per the OddsShark NFL Database.

Betting Line / Total: Atlanta -3.5 / 51 Points

Trend: The Buccaneers are 13-4-1 ATS in their last 18 games in November.

Trend: The total has gone UNDER in 13 of the Falcons’ last 15 games in Week 9.

The Oakland Raiders missed two potential game-winning field goals and set an NFL record for the most penalties ever accepted in an NFL game, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers still couldn’t find a way to win at home last Sunday.

The 30-24 overtime loss dropped Tampa Bay’s record to 3-4 SU and ATS on the season. Making matters worse for the Buccaneers, Jacquizz Rodgers was injured in the loss and isn’t expected to be ready to play in Thursday night’s game.

Thursday night’s total is set at 51 points. The UNDER is 4-1 in Atlanta’s last five road games against Tampa Bay.

Down to their fourth and fifth string running backs with Doug Martin, Charles Sims and Rodgers all expected to miss the game on Thursday, the pressure will be on quarterback Jameis Winston to produce on offense.

Facing Atlanta’s pass-happy offense with the 23rd-ranked passing defense in the NFL, Tampa Bay will likely need to score plenty of points to keep this game close.
