With a 24-10 win over the Carolina Panthers on Super Bowl Sunday the Denver Broncos improved to 6-1 straight up and 6-0-1 against the spread in their last seven games as a betting underdog. The Broncos will once again try to prove their doubters wrong next season by winning Super Bowl 51.
Super Bowl 51 odds: Broncos trail favorite Patriots, Panthers on betting futures
The Denver Broncos will try to defend their Super Bowl championship next season but sit below the top favorites on the Super Bowl 51 odds.

Denver is going off at +1600 odds to win Super Bowl 51 at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. It isn't clear who will be under center for the Broncos in 2016 as Peyton Manning contemplates retirement and Brock Osweiler is a free agent. But driven by one of the great defenses of all time, will it even matter? Denver is expected to extend Super Bowl MVP Von Miller's contract this offseason and should once again be a force to be reckoned with.
By many measures, it is difficult to grade a 17-2 SU and 13-6 ATS season as anything but a success. But by falling short of the ultimate prize on Sunday, the Carolina Panthers ended their season on a disappointing note and will have a long offseason waiting for another shot in 2016.
Bettors shouldn't let the ugly performance in the Super Bowl make them forget how good Cam Newton and the Panthers' defense were in 2015. Carolina should be right back in the mix next year and is going off at +900 to win it all.
Despite falling short in the AFC Championship Game this year, the New England Patriots are tied with the Panthers at +900 on the odds to win Super Bowl 51. Ravaged by injuries in 2015, the Patriots faded out at the end of the season with a 3-5 SU and ATS record in their last eight games.
But with an offseason to recover and a new chip on the shoulders of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, New England doesn't appear to be fading as an elite team.
Other top contenders heading into the 2016 season include the Seattle Seahawks (+900), Pittsburgh Steelers (+1200), Green Bay Packers (+1200), and Arizona Cardinals (+1400). Should the Panthers falter next season, there are plenty of strong teams in the NFC waiting to pounce on another opportunity.
