West Virginia vs. Kansas, Big 12 championship 2016: Odds, lines and betting preview

West Virginia held off Oklahoma to advance to face the top-seeded Kansas Jayhawks for the Big 12 title on Saturday.

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas Jayhawks are 13-0 straight up and 10-3 against the spread on the college basketball betting lines over their last 13 games including two wins in the Big 12 Tournament. The Jayhawks can lock up their fourth tournament win in the last seven seasons with a win over the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday.

Kansas is currently the betting favorite on the odds to win the NCAA Tournament at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Already having done enough to lock up a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, the Jayhawks will play for the title and bragging rights in the Big 12 this weekend.

No team has looked consistently dominant all season long, but the Jayhawks seemed to separate themselves from the pack as the team to beat with their strong finish to the season.

Averaging 81.9 points per game on offense this season, the Jayhawks have one of the top offenses in the nation, and they spread that scoring out with three players averaging over 13 points per game. Kansas’s defense has also stepped up of late, as illustrated in the Jayhawks’ 70-66 win over Baylor on Friday when the offense wasn’t at its best.

The Jayhawks have struggled a bit with West Virginia since the Mountaineers joined the conference in 2012-13. The Mountaineers are 3-2 SU and 4-1 ATS in their last five games against Kansas per the OddsShark College Basketball Database.

West Virginia saw an 11-point lead over the Oklahoma Sooners slip away on Friday night, but the Mountaineers were able to rebound and eventually hold on for the slim victory.

That victory was in question when it appeared that Buddy Hield had won the game for Oklahoma with a buzzer-beater from half court, but he didn’t quite beat the buzzer as the shot didn’t leave his hands in time. The Mountaineers improved to 6-0 SU and ATS over their last six games with the win over the Sooners.

Both Kansas and West Virginia enter this game hot, and these two teams split their games 1-1 SU and ATS with double-digit home wins against one another this season. Now the two teams meet at the Sprint Center this Saturday with the Big 12 championship hanging in the balance.
