March Madness 2016 odds: Sunday’s NCAA Tournament action finalizes Sweet 16

High seeds like No. 14 Stephen F. Austin and No. 15 Middle Tennessee eye trips to the Sweet 16 at the NCAA Tournament on Sunday.

Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks are 21-0 straight up in their last 21 games including a 3-0 against the spread run over their last three games. The Lumberjacks will try to become the first 14-seed in 19 years to advance to the Sweet 16 on Sunday.

Stephen F. Austin is a 1.5-point betting underdog against the No. 6 Notre Dame Fighting Irish at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Southland champions entered the tournament with nine straight wins by 20 points or more, and carried that momentum into a 70-56 upset win over the No. 3 West Virginia Mountaineers as a 7-point underdog.

Notre Dame is just 1-3 SU and ATS in its last four games coming off a win. According to spreads, this is the most even matchup on the board on Sunday.

The only other NCAA Tournament game in which the favorite isn’t favored by at least six points is the game between No. 2 Xavier and No. 7 Wisconsin.

Xavier is a 4.5-point favorite, and is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 games as a favorite of five points or less. Wisconsin is 12-3 SU and 11-4 ATS in its last 15 games overall and is 9-2 SU and ATS in its last 11 games against teams with winning records.

Middle Tennessee is 5-1 SU and ATS in its last six games as an underdog in March, and none of those upsets were more surprising than Friday’s 90-81 win over the Michigan State Spartans. The No. 15 Blue Raiders stunned the nation as a 16.5-point underdog, breaking brackets around the country and reminding basketball fans why they call it March Madness.

Now, Middle Tennessee is a 6.5-point betting underdog against the No. 10 Syracuse Orange, who are 1-5 SU in their last six games in March.

With their easy win and cover over Holy Cross, No. 1 Oregon improved to 15-2 SU and 12-5 ATS over its last 17 games per the OddsShark College Basketball Database. The Ducks are a 6.5-point favorite on Sunday against the No. 8 Saint Joseph’s Hawks.

Something has to give in this one: the Ducks are 7-1 ATS in their last eight games as a favorite of 6.5 points or less, but the Hawks are 9-0 SU and ATS in their last nine games as an underdog of 6.5 points or less.
