SEC Tournament 2016 odds: Kentucky favored on tournament betting lines

Kentucky hopes to defend its SEC championship as the favorite on the odds to win the SEC Tournament this weekend.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Kentucky Wildcats were far from the dominant team they were a year ago with a 23-8 straight up and 15-16 against the spread record this season. But with plenty of talent and some strong play of late, the Wildcats are favored to defend their title heading into the SEC Tournament this week.

No. 2 Kentucky is a +100 favorite on the odds to win the SEC Tournament at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Wildcats have won this tournament three times in the last six years and have advanced to the SEC Tournament championship game in all but one of the last six.

Kentucky went 10-4 SU and 9-5 ATS over its last 14 games with all four of those losses coming on the road. The switch to a neutral location should help the Wildcats, who will take on the winner of Thursday’s No. 7 Mississippi (+3300 to win the SEC Tournament) vs. No. 10 Alabama game on Friday.

The Texas A&M Aggies (+375) earned the top seed in the SEC this season with a 13-5 SU conference record en route to a 24-7 SU and 14-11-2 ATS season. The Aggies hit a big slump at the start of February going 0-4 SU and ATS, but rallied down the stretch to go 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS over their last six games including wins over Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

Texas A&M starts its tournament action on Friday against the winner of Thursday’s No. 8 Florida (+1000) vs. No. 9 Arkansas (+3300) matchup.

Despite ending up with the No. 5 seed in the SEC Tournament, the Vanderbilt Commodores are second only to Kentucky on the betting board to win the tournament at +350. The Commodores lost their regular season finale to Texas A&M, but had gone 4-0 SU and ATS in its previous four games.

The OVER is 8-1 in Vanderbilt’s last nine games per the OddsShark College Basketball Database.

Vanderbilt will play the winner of Wednesday’s No. 12 Tennessee vs. No. 13 Auburn game on Thursday. The winner of that game will advance to take on No. 4 LSU (+1800) on Friday. Rounding out the bracket, No. 6 Georgia takes on No. 11 Mississippi State on Thursday, with the winner moving on to play against No. 3 South Carolina (+1200) on Friday.

The “field” bet to win the SEC Tournament pays +2000 and includes Auburn, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Alabama and Georgia.
