Warriors vs. Spurs 2016 odds: San Antonio favorite at home against Golden State

The San Antonio Spurs host the Golden State Warriors with home perfection on the line this Sunday as small betting favorites.

Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

The San Antonio Spurs are a perfect 39-0 straight up and 23-16 against the spread in 39 games at home this season. That streak will be put to the test on Sunday with the Golden State Warriors coming to town.

San Antonio is a 5-point home betting favorite in Sunday's big game at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Spurs had been favored by double digits in each of their last four home games since going off as a 4.5-point favorite the last time they hosted the Warriors in March.

With the second seed locked up and the first seed appearing to be out of reach, the Spurs have switched into preservation mode in recent weeks, controlling the minutes of the team’s superstars in preparation for the playoffs.

On the heels of a 14-1 run in their previous 15 games, the Spurs are just 6-4 SU and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games, including an 0-2 SU and ATS record in their last two. It will be interesting to see how seriously Gregg Popovich takes these last two home games against San Antonio’s biggest threats in the West, the Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Spurs are one of the few teams in the NBA to enjoy consistent success against the Warriors in recent years. San Antonio is 9-3 SU and 8-4 ATS in its last 12 games against Golden State, including a 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS record at home per the OddsShark NBA Database.

Golden State bounced back from its ugly 124-117 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves with an impressive 112-101 win over the San Antonio Spurs at home on Thursday. With that win, the Warriors kept their shot at a 74-9 SU season alive heading into their final three games at Memphis Saturday night, at San Antonio, and then back at home against Memphis.

Sunday’s total is set at 207 points. The UNDER is 4-1-1 in San Antonio’s last six home games against Golden State.

The home team has won and covered the spread in each of the last five games between the Warriors and the Spurs. The chess match between these two elite teams continues for one more regular season matchup on Sunday.
