France vs. Iceland odds, Euro 2016: Iceland seeks another upset facing host France

Iceland will try to keep its Euro 2016 run alive this Sunday, but the team is listed as a huge underdog at the sportsbooks against host France.

Iceland is unbeaten in its last five games with a 3-0-2 record including a 2-0-2 record in the Euro 2016 tournament. The national team will look for another improbable upset this Sunday facing host country France in the quarterfinals.

Going off as the biggest underdog on the board in the quarterfinals, Iceland would pay +848 on a regulation upset at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. France is a -233 favorite to win the game in regulation, while the game going to extra time would pay +368.

After conceding a goal to England in the fourth minute of Monday’s Round of 16 contest, Iceland’s Cinderella story appeared to be in early danger. But Iceland responded just moments later with a tying goal and in the 18th minute took a 2-1 lead that the team would hold for the rest of the game.

Iceland’s long ball attack has proven to be effective in this tournament, and the team’s ability to defend the lead against a dangerous England offense was impressive.

Iceland’s surprising five-match unbeaten streak comes on the heels of an ugly 3-6 run through the national team’s previous nine games. France has never lost to Iceland with an 8-0-3 record in 11 matches between the two sides.

Like Iceland, France also had to come back from an early penalty kick goal in its Round of 16 match. France trailed Northern Ireland 1-0 heading into the half, but the home crowd was relieved of a disastrous result when Antoine Griezmann scored twice in a four minute span to give France a 2-1 lead that it would hold the rest of the way.

The win brought France’s record to 12-1-1 in its last 14 international contests.

Sunday’s total is set at 2.5 goals. Eight of Iceland’s last 10 games have gone OVER that total.

On paper, this appears to be an easy matchup for France as it tries to push toward a Euro 2016 win on its home soil. Iceland has been surprisingly resilient in this tournament though, and if France gets caught looking ahead to a potential match against Italy or Germany in the next round, it could face a scare in the quarterfinals.
