Monday Night Football 2016 odds: Steelers and Rams set as road betting favorites for Week 1

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Rams will both be giving points on Monday night in a doubleheader at Washington and San Francisco.

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Steelers are 6-2 straight up and 4-3-1 against the spread in their last eight games as a road favorite. The Steelers will try to keep that trend going in the first game of Monday night’s NFL doubleheader visiting the Washington Redskins.

Pittsburgh is a 3-point road favorite in Washington at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. From the beginning of December last season, the Pittsburgh Steelers went 5-1 SU and 3-1-2 ATS over a six-game stretch before eventually losing to Denver 23-16. The Steelers were without Antonio Brown and both Le’Veon Bell and DeAngelo Williams in that game due to injuries; if healthy this season, the Steelers are expected to be one of the top teams in the AFC.

The Washington Redskins also finished the 2015 regular season on a strong run, going 6-2 SU and ATS over their last eight games and 4-0 SU and ATS over their last four before losing to Green Bay 35-18 in the wild card round. The Redskins will try to carry last year’s momentum into this season, including the team’s success as a small underdog. Washington is 7-0 SU and ATS in its last seven games as an underdog of four points or less per the OddsShark NFL Database.

Pittsburgh (-3) at Washington

Trend: The Redskins are 1-5 ATS in their last six games against the AFC.

Trend: The Steelers are 1-4 SU and 0-4-1 ATS in their last five games in Week 1.

In the second game of Monday night’s doubleheader, the Los Angeles Rams are a 2.5-point road favorite facing the San Francisco 49ers. The Rams haven’t had much success on the road against the 49ers over the last decade with a 1-6-1 SU record in their last eight trips to San Francisco. Case Keenum will start at quarterback for the Rams after finishing last season on a 3-1 SU and ATS run as the team’s starter.

The Niners are 5-0 SU and ATS in their last five season openers. The Niners were dominant defensively in a 20-3 season opener at home against Minnesota last year, but then went on to go just 4-11 SU an 6-9 ATS over their next 15 games. The disappointing 2015 campaign led to the firing of head coach Jim Tomsula, who was replaced this offseason with the offense-minded Chip Kelly. That offense will get a tough early test against a very solid Rams defense.

Los Angeles (-2.5) at San Francisco

Trend: The 49ers are 5-0 SU and ATS in their last five games in Week 1.

Trend: The Rams are 3-11 ATS in their last 14 games in Week 1.
