TOUR Championship 2016 odds: Dustin Johnson favored to win Atlanta tournament

Dustin Johnson leads the pack in the FedExCup standings and is heading into the final tournament of the PGA Tour season as the betting favorite.

Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

With his win in the BMW Championship earlier in the month Dustin Johnson may have all but locked up player of the year honors for 2016. The American pro will leave no doubt at all if he is able to win the TOUR Championship this weekend and claim this year’s FedExCup title.

Johnson is the +450 favorite to win the event at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The win in the BMW Championship was Johnson’s third victory of 2016 and his sixth finish in the top six this year. Johnson finished tied for fifth in this event last season and is a safe bet to be back in the thick of the race again this year.

Rory McIlroy’s boom-or-bust season has been summed up well by his performance in the playoffs so far. Sandwiched between a 31st-place finish at The Barclays and a 42nd-place finish at the BMW Championship is a win at the Deutsche Bank Championship, McIlroy’s first win of the year and just his seventh top-10 finish in 17 events played this season.

At +600 to win the TOUR Championship, McIlroy could drive his backers mad with a bad performance or make those trying to fade him upset with a good one.

The defending champion Jordan Spieth is going off at +800 on the golf betting lines to win the TOUR Championship this week. Spieth had 10th-place finish at The Barclays and a ninth-place finish in the BMW Championship, but is still looking for his first win since May when he won the Dean & Deluca Invitational.

Jason Day (+900 to win) finished runner-up at the PGA Championship, tied for fourth at The Barclays and tied for 15th at the Deutsche Bank Championship before withdrawing from the BMW Championship with a back injury. Day is clearly capable of winning when healthy, and claims to be cautiously optimistic that his back will be fine for this event after a week of rest.

Other potential contenders include Adam Scott (+1000), Paul Casey (+1400), Patrick Reed (+1600), Hideki Matsuyama (+2800) and Phil Mickelson (+3000). Casey cracked the top five in this event last season with a four-under-par performance.
