Denver is a three-point home underdog in Thursday night’s Super Bowl rematch at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Broncos are 25-4 SU in their last 29 games at home, but bettors seem to believe that starting an inexperienced quarterback in Trevor Siemian against a team of Carolina’s caliber might be too much to overcome.
The Panthers are 1-4 SU and 2-3 ATS in their last five games against the Broncos.
Another inexperienced quarterback looking to lead his team to victory at home on Sunday is rookie Dak Prescott, who will start for the Dallas Cowboys in place of injured starter Tony Romo. Dallas was originally a 3.5-point favorite at home against the New York Giants in the weeks leading up to this game, but Romo's injury has bumped this game down to a pick'em.
The Giants have been perennial slow starters of late with an 0-5 SU and 1-4 ATS record in their last five season-opening games.
There will be no lack of experience at quarterback in New Orleans when Drew Brees takes the field as a one-point favorite at home against the Oakland Raiders. Oakland seemed to be heading in the right direction last season with a 7-9 SU and 8-8 ATS campaign, and have become a popular dark horse pick to make the postseason this year after making a big splash in free agency.
But value could be on the home team in this one as the Raiders are 1-12 SU in their last 13 Week 1 games and 2-6 SU and 1-7 ATS in their last eight games against the Saints per the OddsShark NFL Database.
The first week of the NFL regular season wraps up with New England at Arizona (minus-6) on Sunday night and a double-header on Monday night featuring Pittsburgh (minus-3) at Washington and Los Angeles (minus-2.5) at San Francisco. Jimmy Garoppolo will start in place of the suspended Tom Brady for New England on Sunday.
