Panthers vs. Broncos 2016 odds: Carolina betting favorite vs. Denver on Thursday night

The Carolina Panthers will try to exact some revenge on the Denver Broncos this Thursday night as the NFL season gets underway.

Including last season’s loss in the Super Bowl, the Carolina Panthers are 1-4 straight up and 2-3 against the spread in their last five games against the Denver Broncos. The Panthers will try to turn that luck around in a rematch of Super Bowl 50 this Thursday night in Denver.

Carolina is a 3-point road favorite over the Broncos at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Broncos had opened as a 1-point favorite, but heavy action on the Panthers in recent weeks has moved the line by four full points.

The Panthers steamrolled through the 2015 season, going 17-1 SU and 13-5 ATS in 18 games leading up to the Super Bowl including impressive wins over Seattle and Arizona in the postseason.

The Panthers were favored by as many as seven points in the Super Bowl before eventually closing as 4.5-point favorites, but Cam Newton and the Carolina offense failed to gain any traction and lost the game 24-10. It was just the second time in the team’s last 10 games that Carolina had been held to under 33 points and just the second time all season that the offense had been held to under 20 points.

Carolina has dominated as a small favorite with an 8-0 SU and ATS record in its last eight games as a favorite of three points or less per the OddsShark NFL Database.

Betting Line / Total: Carolina -3 / 41.5 Points

Trend: The total has gone UNDER in four of the Panthers’ last five games against the Broncos.

Trend: The Broncos are 25-4 SU in their last 29 games at home.

The Broncos won the Super Bowl last season with Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler under center, but neither of those quarterbacks is still on the roster. After beating out Mark Sanchez for the starting role this preseason, Trevor Siemian is now the starter for the Denver Broncos despite having just one career snap under his belt.

Denver has been a home underdog just five times since the start of the 2012 season, and the Broncos have gone 4-1 SU and ATS over that stretch. Thursday’s total is set at 41.5. The OVER is 7-3 in Denver’s last 10 games as a home underdog.

Since 2004, the home team is 11-1 SU in these Thursday night NFL Kickoff Games. Denver beat Baltimore 49-27 when it hosted the season opener in 2013.
