New England Patriots

All is right on offense for the Patriots — the Super Bowl odds leader — who lead the league in yards per game with 423.8 and are second in points per game with 32.3. But in perfect contrast, New England ranks dead last in yards surrendered with 456.8 per game and second in points allowed with 32 per game.

The team’s poor play on defense has led to a disappointing 2-2 SU and 1-3 ATS start that includes two losses at home as a favorite of a touchdown or more.

Over their last 15 games played in the month of October, the Patriots are 13-2 SU and 10-4-1 ATS, per the OddsShark NFL Database. That stretch includes a 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS record on the road.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay edged out the New York Giants 25-23 last Sunday to improve to 2-1 SU on the season, but fell to 1-2 ATS as 2.5-point favorites in the process. Dating back to last year, the Buccaneers are now 8-3 SU and 7-4 ATS over their last 11 games, including a 6-0 SU and 4-2 ATS record at home.

The Buccaneers are hoping to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2007 this year, and a win over the defending champions would be a huge confidence booster for this group.

Thursday night’s total is set at 56 points. The UNDER is 6-1 in the last seven meetings between these two teams.

While these two teams have historically seen their totals go UNDER when they match up, each of New England’s last eight games has gone OVER the posted total. With the best offense and the worst defense in the NFL, Patriots games figure to feature plenty of fireworks until something changes.
