LSU Tigers
With a 35-26 road win over Syracuse in Week 4, it had appeared that LSU had put its ugly 37-7 loss to Mississippi State in the past. Instead, the Tigers suffered an even more embarrassing loss a week later, losing to the Troy Trojans, 24-21, as 20.5-point home favorites.
The loss was LSU’s first non-conference home loss since 2000. Fortunately for LSU, help is on the way on offense as starting running back Derrius Guice has been upgraded to probable for Saturday’s contest.
After a disastrous 3-2 SU and 1-4 ATS stretch of play in September, the Tigers hope to turn things around in October. LSU is 10-0 SU and 9-1 ATS in its last 10 games played in the month of October per the OddsShark College Football Database.
Florida Gators
The Gators picked up their first ATS win of the season last Saturday, beating Vanderbilt at home, 38-24, as 9-point favorites. Luke Del Rio was lost for the season with an injury, paving the way for Feleipe Franks to return under center as the undisputed starter at quarterback for Florida moving forward. Florida is 1-3 SU and ATS in its last three games against LSU.
Saturday’s total is set at 45.5 points. The UNDER is 10-2 in LSU’s last 12 games against conference opponents.
The Tigers are at their best when they can run the ball effectively, and the return of a healthy Guice should help them do that. Florida’s offense has managed to put up a respectable 30.7 points per game since its dud of a performance in the season opener, but this LSU defense promises to be a much tougher challenge than what the Gators have faced in recent weeks. This should be a tight one.
