Dallas Cowboys
On Thursday afternoon, the Second Circuit Court denied Ezekiel Elliott’s suspension appeal, finally making the star running back’s six-game suspension official. The decision is a crushing blow for the Cowboys offense, as Elliott has rushed for 390 yards and five touchdowns over the team’s current three-game winning streak.
Alfred Morris will take over as the starting running back for the next month-and-a-half in Elliott’s absence.
The lack of line movement after the announcement suggests that sportsbooks were already expecting Elliott not to play this week. Dallas is 4-1 SU and ATS in its last five games as a betting underdog, per the OddsShark NFL Database.
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons seem to be in serious trouble. Since starting the season off 3-0 SU and ATS and averaging 29 points per game over that stretch, Atlanta is 1-4 SU and 0-5 ATS over its last five games and averaging a modest 16.6 points per game.
Injuries have plagued the Falcons offense through the first half of the season, but the huge drop in offensive production could also be in part due to the departure of Kyle Shanahan this offseason or a delayed Super Bowl hangover. Atlanta lost as a favorite last week and is just 2-9 ATS in its last 11 games coming off a loss as a favorite.
Sunday’s total is set at 50.5 points. The OVER is 4-1 in the last five games between Atlanta and Dallas.
In a season that hasn’t seen much go Atlanta’s way, the Falcons caught a break in getting the Cowboys without Elliott this week. This will help on the defensive side, but it won’t solve the Falcons’ woes on offense, which will need to be solved to defeat this well-rounded Dallas team.
