New England Patriots
Back when the Patriots started the season off in a 2-2 SU and 1-3 ATS slump with a defense allowing 32 points per game, the AFC appeared to be wide open for the taking. But over their last eight games, the Patriots have allowed only 11.9 points per game, and they still have the best quarterback in the league under center.
Brady will be short one of his favorite targets this Monday night however as Rob Gronkowski serves a one-game suspension for his violent actions in last Sunday’s 23-3 win over the Buffalo Bills.
The Patriots are 10-1 SU and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games as a double-digit favorite per the OddsShark NFL Database. New England’s last instance as a double-digit favorite came as a 17-point favorite in late November against these Dolphins in a game in which the Patriots successfully covered the spread.
Miami Dolphins
Miami had a blowout victory last Sunday when it defeated the Denver Broncos 35-9. The win snapped an 0-5 SU and 0-4-1 ATS losing streak that saw the Dolphins allow 35.4 points per game, and was the team’s first win by a touchdown or more in 2017.
The Dolphins are hoping that no Gronkowski and a change in venue will help the team to solve the Patriots and snap a 1-7 SU and 0-8 ATS slump on Monday Night Football.
Monday night’s total is set at 47.5 points. The OVER is 8-1 in Miami’s last nine games against AFC East rivals.
With New England, the favorites on the odds to win the AFC championship, set to clash with the Pittsburgh Steelers next Sunday for the top spot in the AFC, there is the potential for the Patriots to get caught looking ahead at that one. Whether or not lowly Miami would be able to take advantage of a New England off-game is another story.
