Duke vs. Virginia odds 2017: Blue Devils set as underdogs for Wednesday against Cavaliers

The Duke Blue Devils will try to earn a win on the road against the Virginia Cavaliers on Wednesday night as betting underdogs at the sportsbooks.

Mark Dolejs-USA TODAY Sports

The Duke Blue Devils are 5-0 straight up and 2-3 against the spread over their last five games. The Blue Devils can extend their winning streak to six straight games with a road win on Wednesday over the Virginia Cavaliers.

Duke is a 4-point road underdog in Charlottesville at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In their last three road games against Virginia, the Blue Devils are 1-2 SU and ATS.

The Blue Devils looked the part of a national title contender in last Thursday’s win over North Carolina. With Grayson Allen leading the way on offense with 25 points, Duke picked up an 86-78 win as 2.5-point home favorites.

Duke’s inconsistency shined through in the team’s next game against Clemson, a 64-62 win over Clemson as 11-point favorites. The team clearly has the talent to go all the way this postseason, but it’s still looking to find its extra gear more consistently.

This rivalry has been lopsided in Duke’s favor in recent years as Duke is 16-3 SU in its last 19 games against Virginia, but the Cavaliers have held their own with a 12-6-1 ATS record over that stretch including a current run of 7-2 ATS per the OddsShark College Basketball Database.

Betting Line: Virginia -4 Points

Trend: The Cavaliers are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games against the Blue Devils.

Trend: The OVER is 3-1-1 in the last five games between the Cavaliers and Blue Devils.

Virginia basketball has become known for its stout defense, and this season is no different as the Cavaliers lead the nation in fewest points allowed with 55.1 per game. This style doesn’t leave much room for error however, as shown in recent road losses to Syracuse and Virginia Tech.

The Cavaliers have been rock-solid at home of late, though, with a 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS record over their last four home games and an average margin of victory of 17.3 points per game.

The OVER is 3-1-1 in the last five games between these two teams for bettors on the totals.

The Cavaliers don’t have the firepower on offense to keep up with the Blue Devils in a shootout. To win this game at home, Virginia will need to keep Duke’s offense in check. Virginia has scored over 70 points just twice in its last 11 games against Duke and the Cavaliers won both of those games.
