Penguins vs. Blackhawks 2017 odds: Chicago rolling heading into date with Pittsburgh

The Chicago Blackhawks have been paying off at the sportsbooks in a big way lately and hope to stay red-hot at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night.

Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Blackhawks finished the month of February with a 9-1 record in 10 games. The Blackhawks will try to continue their hot streak into March when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins this Wednesday night.

Chicago is set as the -130 home favorite at the United Center for Wednesday’s game at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Penguins will be trying to snap Chicago’s four-game winning streak.

The Blackhawks have been on a complete tear on offense over their last 10 games, scoring at least four goals in nine of those 10 games and averaging 4.4 goals per game over that stretch.

Chicago has beaten Minnesota twice in the last month, closing the gap for first place in the Western Conference with 20 games left on the team’s schedule. Patrick Kane has nine goals and seven assists in the team’s last 10 games.

This head-to-head series has been lopsided in recent years with Chicago holding a 7-2 record in its last nine games against Pittsburgh, including a current 4-0 streak, per the OddsShark NHL Database.

Betting Line / Total: Chicago -130 / 5.5 Goals

Trend: The Blackhawks are 7-2 in their last nine games against the Penguins.

Trend: The UNDER is 7-1-1 in the last nine games between the Blackhawks and Penguins.

Despite Chicago’s recent burst on offense, Pittsburgh still holds the top spot in the NHL in scoring, averaging 3.5 goals per game. Every game will count for the Penguins down the stretch, as they are caught in a dogfight for positioning in the Metropolitan Division with the Columbus Blue Jackets and the New York Rangers.

Pittsburgh will be playing Wednesday night’s game on the second night of a back-to-back after visiting Dallas on Tuesday night. The Pens are 5-6 in their last 11 games on the end of a back-to-back.

While both of these teams are known for their elite offenses, the UNDER is 7-1-1 in the last nine games between Chicago and Pittsburgh at online betting sites.

This will be the first of two Wednesday night primetime matchups between the Blackhawks and the Penguins, with the next scheduled on March 29 in Pittsburgh. Both of these teams are legitimate Stanley Cup contenders, and these head-to-head clashes should have a playoff atmosphere to them as they tend to elevate their games against elite opponents.
