Canelo vs. GGG odds: Alvarez looks for big win as underdog against Golovkin

Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin finally meet for their mega fight this Saturday night, with Golovkin pegged as the betting favorite at the sportsbooks for the bout.

At just 27 years old, Canelo Alvarez has already compiled an impressive professional record of 49-1-1. Alvarez will try to earn one of the biggest wins of his career this Saturday night in Las Vegas against Gennady Golovkin.

Alvarez is a +115 underdog to win this bout at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Since picking up his first career loss against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September of 2013, Alvarez has continued to improve as a boxer and has strung together seven straight wins with four knockouts. This will be Alvarez’s first fight as an underdog since that loss to Mayweather.

Golovkin (-145) is one of the greatest pound-for-pound boxers in the world, owning a 37-0 record with an astonishing 33 career knockouts. Golovkin’s reputation as an extremely powerful puncher has made it difficult for the 35-year-old to find opponents willing to fight him in recent years, and he has been pleading for this fight against Alvarez for a long time.

The fight is finally happening, and it will give Golovkin a chance to cement his legacy against an elite opponent.

Golovkin doesn’t necessarily have to win this fight by knockout, but it is his most obvious path to victory. Alvarez is the more polished boxer of the two, and a fight that goes to the cards would likely favor Alvarez.

As a result, prop bets on the exact outcome of the fight will be popular in this one. Bettors looking for a better payout on a Golovkin win might favor a bet on him to win by KO, TKO or DQ at +160, while Canelo supporters might prefer the +190 payout on Alvarez by decision.

Both of these fighters have strong chins, making this fight a slight favorite at -130 to go the distance. Multiple totals are available to bet on, but the one with the most balanced odds is the line of 11.5 rounds, which would pay -140 on the OVER and +100 on the UNDER.

Bettors that aren’t sure which way this fight will go but expect a knockout might favor that UNDER 11.5 bet at even money.
