Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars entered Week 17 averaging 34.5 points per game over their last four games having scored at least 30 points in all four of those games. The offense screeched to a grinding halt in a 15-10 loss to Tennessee that week, and that miserable offensive output carried over into the postseason as the Jaguars managed only 230 total yards and 10 points at home against a mediocre Buffalo defense.
Fortunately for Jacksonville, still back at +1800 on the Super Bowl 52 odds, the defense was up to the task, carrying the team to an ugly 10-3 win in the wild card round.
In their last 28 games as a road underdog, the Jaguars are 4-24 SU and 13-13-2 ATS per the OddsShark NFL Database.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh’s Week 5 loss to the Jaguars served as the turning point for the Steelers’ season in 2017. Ben Roethlisberger threw five interceptions in that loss, which dropped Pittsburgh to 3-2 SU and 2-3 ATS on the year.
Since then, the Steelers are 10-1 SU and 5-6 ATS, with their only loss over that stretch coming against the New England Patriots. The Steelers are 5-1 SU and ATS in their last six postseason home games.
Sunday’s total is set at 41 points. The OVER is 11-1-1 in Pittsburgh’s last 12 home games in the playoffs.
Jacksonville and Pittsburgh both finished in the top five in the NFL in total defense this season and also had two of the lowest-scoring defenses in the league with the Jaguars allowing 16.8 points per game and the Steelers allowing 19.3.
Pittsburgh has more firepower on offense and should be more comfortable in Sunday’s frigid temperatures, but seven points may be a lot to give up against this talented Jaguars defense.
