Purdue Boilermakers
Back in November, Purdue fell out of the AP Top 25 after picking up back-to-back losses as 8-point favorites against Tennessee and 19-point favorites at Western Kentucky. But since those two slip-ups, the Boilermakers have emerged as one of the nation’s best and most consistent teams, currently riding the nation’s longest winning streak at 15 games.
Purdue is extremely dangerous for its ability to win on both sides of the court ranking 19th in the nation in scoring with 84.8 points per game and 10th in scoring defense allowing 62.2 points per game.
The Boilermakers have been a strong bet as double-digit chalk of late going 15-1 SU and 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 games as a double-digit favorite per the OddsShark College Basketball Database.
Michigan Wolverines
Michigan opened its season with an underwhelming 7-3 SU and 4-5 ATS record but have gone a respectable 10-2 SU and 8-3-1 ATS since. Since dropping early road games to LSU, North Carolina, and Ohio State the Wolverines have gone 3-1 SU and ATS over their last four road games including an impressive 82-72 win over Michigan State as 9.5-point favorites.
The Wolverines rank just behind Purdue at 11th on defense allowing 62.5 points per game but far behind them on offense averaging only 74.5 points per game.
Thursday’s total is set at 133.5. The UNDER is 6-0 in Purdue’s last six games and 3-0 in Michigan’s last three.
Given that both of these teams have excellent defenses and Purdue has the superior offense and home court advantage, it makes sense to see the Boilermakers going off as a big favorite. Moritz Wagner scored a season-high 27 points in Michigan’s upset over Michigan State and the team will likely need another big shooting night from their junior forward to keep this one close.
