Los Angeles Rams
First year head coach Sean McVay erred on the side of caution in Week 17, resting all of his key starters in a 34-13 home loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The underwhelming game had no effect on Los Angeles’ status as the conference’s No. 3 seed as the Rams ended the regular season with an 11-5 SU and 9-7 ATS record. Los Angeles is just 3-8 ATS in its last 11 games at home.
This will be Los Angeles’ first postseason game since 2005. The Rams are 1-3 SU and ATS over their last four playoff games per the OddsShark NFL Database.
Atlanta Falcons
It was a far less dominant regular-season campaign for the Falcons and their offense in 2017 than it was in 2016, but the defending NFC champions did enough to advance into the postseason with a 10-6 SU and 7-9 ATS record.
Unlike last year’s trip to the Super Bowl, which had a bye week and two home games, this year’s Falcons team will need to get the job done on the road. Atlanta is a respectable 12-5 SU and 10-7 ATS in its last 17 games on the road but is 0-4 SU in its last four games as a road dog.
Saturday night’s total is set at 48.5. The UNDER is 5-0 in Atlanta’s last five games.
By the numbers, Los Angeles’ offense was more consistently explosive than Atlanta’s in 2017, averaging 7.8 more points per game. But this is the postseason, and to advance against the experienced Falcons, the Rams may need their young stud quarterback Jared Goff to outduel one of the best veterans in the game in Matt Ryan.
