Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavaliers went all-in on the trade market to try to give LeBron James a shot at winning the championship this year, jettisoning six players and two draft picks to bring in Rodney Hood, George Hill, Larry Nance Jr. and Jordan Clarkson. Early returns on the trade flurry have been outstanding with the team going 3-0 SU and ATS with upset wins over Boston and Oklahoma City included in that stretch. The new-look Cavaliers have scored at least 120 points in all three of those games, winning by an average margin of 15.3 points per game.
Over the last six meetings between Cleveland and Washington, the Cavaliers are 5-1 SU and ATS per the OddsShark NBA Database.
Washington Wizards
Washington entered the all-star break in the midst of a 7-2 SU and ATS run, continuing to play well while John Wall is sidelined with a knee injury. At 33-24 SU and 27-30 ATS, the Wizards sit in the fourth seed, eight games out of first place in the Eastern Conference and five games ahead of ninth-place Detroit. Otto Porter Jr. has helped pick up the slack on offense in Wall’s absence, averaging 19.1 points per game over Washington’s last nine.
Thursday’s total is set at 220.5 points. The OVER is 4-1 in Cleveland’s last five games and Washington’s last five games.
Both of these teams were playing great heading into the all-star break. With less than 30 games remaining in the regular season, this is the time of year that teams hope to start rounding into playoff form. Coming out of the break against one of the conference’s top teams should be a good test for both the Cavaliers and the Wizards, who are also still jostling for valuable positioning in the standings.
