Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins swept their four-game season series against the Flyers during the regular season, scoring five goals in each of those four games. Pittsburgh has also scored at least five goals in its first two wins of this series winning 7-0 in Game 1 and 5-1 in Game 3 after dropping Game 2 by a score of 5-1.
Flyers fans are hoping that the drastic swings in this series continue in Game 4 while the Penguins hope to take a stranglehold on the series with another strong performance.
Including last year’s wins in Game 5 and Game 6 in the Stanley Cup final over Nashville, the Penguins are 4-1 over their last five postseason games per the OddsShark NHL Database.
Philadelphia Flyers
Through the first three games of this series, Philadelphia’s goaltenders have combined for a dismal save percentage of .862 to go along with a goals-against average of 4.33.
Despite out-shooting the Penguins 11-4 in the first period of Game 3 at home, the Flyers found themselves in a 1-0 hole at the end of the period as they were unable to take advantage of their early momentum. To turn this series around, Philadelphia will need much better goaltending than it has received to this point.
Wednesday’s total is set at six goals. The OVER is 6-0-2 in the last eight games between these two teams.
Few teams can flip the on-switch when the postseason rolls around like the defending Stanley Cup champion Penguins can. Pittsburgh looks poised for another deep run with the offense clicking and goaltender Matt Murray playing well. But if the Flyers can prove that Game 2 wasn’t a fluke with another big win, it could flip the script on this series heading back to Pittsburgh.
