Boston Bruins
The Bruins absolutely blew Toronto away in their first two home games of this series, winning Game 1 by a score of 5-1 and Game 2 with a final of 7-3. The series got a lot more competitive in Toronto, but Boston managed to earn a split on the road with a 3-1 win in Game 4 despite being without Patrice Bergeron, who sat out with an upper-body injury.
Bergeron was skating with the team on Friday and could return to action in Game 5, but the Bruins may also want to take it easy with their Selke Trophy finalist and limit his action until he is 100%.
In the last six games between these two rivals, Boston is 4-2 per the OddsShark NHL Database. The Maple Leafs were 6-0 in the previous six games of this head-to-head series.
Toronto Maple Leafs
Toronto out-shot the Bruins 32-21 in Game 4 but could only manage to get one shot by Tuukka Rask as the Bruins weathered the storm and took a commanding 3-1 lead in the series.
After serving out the three-game suspension that he picked up in Game 1, Nazem Kadri will return the line-up on Saturday. Kadri should give the team a boost in energy, which is exactly what it will need to help counterbalance the hostile environment in Boston. The Maple Leafs are just 4-10 in their last 14 games on the road.
Saturday’s total is set at 5.5 goals. The OVER is 7-1-1 in Toronto’s last nine road games.
The Maple Leafs are a good hockey team, but Boston has the look of a legitimate Stanley Cup contender with its goals for, goals against, power play and penalty kill all ranking in the Top 6 in the NHL. Toronto will need an outstanding performance from Frederik Andersen like it got in Game 3 if it hopes to steal this and bring the series back home.
