Cleveland Cavaliers
What a difference a series can make. Cleveland was pushed all the way to Game 7 in the first round against the Indiana Pacers, going just 1-6 ATS over the course of the series with all four wins coming by four points or less.
The Cavaliers looked vulnerable heading into their second-round series against the Toronto Raptors. The struggles did not continue for Cleveland however as the Raptors had no answer for LeBron James and his 34 points and 11.3 assists per game, succumbing to the Cavaliers in just four games. Cleveland went 3-1 ATS in the series.
The Cavaliers are 5-1 SU and ATS in their last six road games against Boston per the OddsShark NBA Database.
Boston Celtics
Boston was an underdog in each of the first four games of its second-round series against the Philadelphia 76ers, only finally closing as a 1.5-point favorite at home in Game 5. Like Cleveland, the Celtics needed seven games in the first round and was expected to be in trouble against a supposedly superior team.
Instead, the Celtics crushed the 76ers in five games to improve to 5-1 SU and ATS over their last six postseason games. Rookie Jayson Tatum is a star in the making, leading the team in playoff scoring with 18.8 points per game.
Sunday’s total is set at 203 points. The UNDER is 8-3 in Boston’s last 11 home games against Cleveland.
While basketball fans won’t get to see LeBron James clash with Kyrie Irving due to Irving being sidelined with a knee injury, they should still get an excellent series in this one. James has looked like his usual dominant self this postseason, but Boston’s depth could give the Cavaliers fits. Game 1 will set the tone for the rest of this series.
