Golden State Warriors
On a night that Stephen Curry couldn’t get much going offensively with just 18 points of offense and a 1-for-5 night from three-point range, the Warriors still coasted to a 119-106 win on the road in Game 1.
Kevin Durant led the way with 37 points while Klay Thompson chipped in 28. What the Warriors lack in bench depth they more than make up for in the strength of their starters, and when Durant is on there is very little opposing defenses can do about it.
Since the start of their championship run last year, the Warriors are 10-3 straight up and against the spread over their last 13 postseason road games per the OddsShark NBA Database.
Houston Rockets
James Harden went for over 40 points for the third straight series opener this postseason scoring 41 points and seven assists in just 35 minutes of game time. Harden went 5-for-9 from behind the arc while the rest of the team was only 8-for-28 (28.6 percent).
The margin for error against a team of Golden State’s caliber is so thin, as evidenced by Houston’s loss at home on a less-than-spectacular shooting night. Houston is 9-0 SU and 6-3 ATS in its last nine games coming off of a loss.
Wednesday night’s total is set at 224.5 points. The total went UNDER in Game 1 and is 8-3 on the UNDER in the last 11 games between the Warriors and the Rockets.
While it is still early in the series, Game 2 suddenly has a must-win vibe around it for the Rockets. Golden State was already successful in taking home court away from the Rockets with their Game 1 win; bringing a 2-0 lead back to the Bay Area would leave Houston in a seemingly insurmountable hole.
