Cleveland Indians
The Indians narrowly avoided being swept in Houston over the weekend by holding on to their 5-0 lead in the second game of that series in an eventual 5-4 win.
But in dropping two of three to the Astros, Cleveland fell to 8-13 over its last 21 games and 5-9 over its last 14. Cleveland has lost four of six games on this current road trip and will be thrilled to get back home after wrapping up this two-game stint in Chicago.
Trevor Bauer is enjoying a breakout season for the Indians with an excellent 2.59 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP. Despite his solid pitching, the Indians are just 4-5 in his nine starts including a 1-3 record on the road.
Chicago Cubs
Since starting the season off with an 11-10 record, the Cubs have continued to roller coaster up and down. Chicago ended April with a 5-0 run, started May with an 0-5 run, turned that around with another 5-0 run, and then went 1-3 followed by 3-1 over its last eight.
The team’s hot-and-cold start to the year has kept the NL Central highly competitive with the top four teams entering Tuesday’s action within two games of each other.
The UNDER is 4-1 for totals bettors in the last five games between these two teams in Chicago, according to the OddsShark MLB Database.
With a National League best +72 run differential, the Cubs may be better than their record and streaky play would indicate. While positive times may be ahead for the Cubs, the Indians would love to catch the home team in one of their cold streaks this week. This short series will close out on Wednesday with Jon Lester hosting Adam Plutko.
