Chicago Cubs
The Cubs wrapped up last week with a 3-1 series win over the Cincinnati Reds, racking up seven runs per game over those four games. That momentum did not carry over into a two-game series against the Cleveland Indians this week in which Chicago’s bats went ice cold, producing only one run over 18 innings of play in back-to-back losses.
Chicago will try to find its offense this weekend against a Giants team that ranks 23rd in the majors with a 4.46 Team ERA.
Kyle Hendricks has pitched fairly well this season with a 3.40 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP through his first nine starts of 2018. These starts haven’t resulted in many wins however as the Cubs are just 3-6 in Hendricks’ nine starts per the OddsShark MLB Database.
San Francisco Giants
Like Chicago, the Giants enter this series with some cold bats, losing a two-game series against the Astros in which they were outscored 15-3.
San Francisco put together an impressive run from late April into early May going 12-4 over a 16-game stretch that included five straight series wins. But since sweeping Atlanta on the road earlier this month, the Giants are just 5-11 over their last 16 games, falling back down to a mediocre 24-26 on the season.
The OVER is 7-3-2 in San Francisco’s last 12 games coming into this series.
With two of San Francisco’s top pitchers in Madison Bumgarner and Johnny Cueto sidelined with injuries, the Giants are trying to stay afloat with a makeshift staff. Chris Stratton will take the mound for the Giants against Jose Quintana on Saturday and Ty Blach will get the call facing Yu Darvish on Sunday.
