Golden State Warriors

The Warriors survived Cleveland’s best punch on Thursday night, narrowly avoiding disaster as the game went to overtime before finally running away in the extra period. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson each had five three-pointers as Curry finished with a team-leading 29 points and Thompson tallied 24. Kevin Durant had a bad night from behind the arc going just 1-for-7, but still ended Game 1 with 26 points.

With Thursday’s win, Golden State moved to 8-1 SU and 6-2-1 ATS in its last nine games against the Cavaliers per the OddsShark NBA Database.

Cleveland Cavaliers

LeBron James had the highest scoring night of his playoff career racking up 51 points along with eight rebounds and eight assists. A great pass from James to George Hill allowed Hill to draw a foul and go to the line with a chance to take the lead with 4.7 seconds to go. Hill missed the second free throw and the ball was rebounded by JR Smith, who seemingly forgot the score was 107-107 and let the clock run out instead of putting up a shot. To lose this game, in this fashion, was a crushing blow to the Cavaliers.

Sunday night’s total is set at 215.5 points. The OVER is 5-2 in the last seven games between these two teams.

On the bright side, Game 1 was thoroughly entertaining and hard-fought, which was a far cry from the Warriors blowout many thought it would be. But on the other hand, it may be difficult for James and the Cavaliers to put together that strong of a performance again, and the fact that it wasn’t enough to earn a win on Thursday doesn’t bode well for a long series.
