Washington Capitals
The Capitals completely changed the complexion of this series in Washington. After losing Game 1 and narrowly hanging on for a 3-2 win in Game 2, Washington dominated Game 3 in a 3-1 victory and then continued that dominance in a 6-2 Game 4 win.
All of the momentum seems to be on the Capitals’ side heading into this potentially series-deciding game in Las Vegas.
In their last 17 games on the road, the Capitals are 14-3 with a 10-3 record as a betting underdog per the OddsShark NHL Database.
Vegas Golden Knights
It had been a dream season for the Golden Knights leading up to the Stanley Cup final, but everything has started to go wrong at once.
Vegas has scored only three goals on its last 68 shots on offense. And in goal, after entering this series on one of the greatest postseason runs in NHL history with a .947 save percentage and 1.68 goals-against average, Marc-Andre Fleury has been torched with an .845 save percentage and a 4.08 goals-against average.
The Golden Knights have never lost four straight games in franchise history going 3-0 in their last three games after losing three straight.
Thursday night’s total is set at 5.5 goals. The OVER is 5-2 in Vegas’ last seven games at home.
Each of the last 31 teams to take a 3-1 series lead in the Stanley Cup final has gone on to win the Stanley Cup. But on the flip side, no team in NHL history has blown more 3-1 series leads than the Capitals, who have done so five times.
This game is only a must-win for the Golden Knights, but given their history, the Capitals shouldn’t be caught taking it lightly.
