Atlanta Braves
It’s tough to win games if you can’t prevent your opponent from scoring runs. Atlanta’s one win over its last six games came in a 5-1 victory over Milwaukee on Saturday, fueled by a strong start from Anibal Sanchez.
Over the team’s last five losses, the Braves have surrendered 7.2 runs per game, never allowing less than five in any of those games. Atlanta’s once strong hold on the NL East division is down to just a one-game lead over Philadelphia due to this recent slump.
Atlanta is 23-17 at home this season. The Braves return home from a 10-game road trip on Tuesday.
Toronto Blue Jays
It’s been a rough year for the Blue Jays, who not only have had to deal with injury issues but are also trapped in a division with two of the best teams in baseball in the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees.
Toronto put together a nice stretch over the second half of June to finish that month with a 9-5 record over its last 14 games, but July has been rough thus far with a 2-5 record through seven games. Marcus Stroman has struggled mightily this season with a 6.50 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP, and the Blue Jays are just 2-5 over his last seven starts.
Tuesday night’s total is set at nine runs. The OVER is 6-0 in the last six meetings between these two clubs per the OddsShark MLB Database.
The Braves have emerged as a popular dark horse pick in the National League this season, and one small slump doesn’t offset all the good that they have done so far. Still, getting some momentum back before the all-star break wouldn’t hurt the team’s chances moving forward.
