Rory McIlroy has turned in strong results at the British Open in recent years, finishing in fourth place in the event in 2017, fifth place in 2016, and winning it in 2014. McIlroy enters this year’s event as one of the favorites to come out on top.
British Open prop bets 2018: Rory McIlroy highlights prop odds for tournament this week
Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson head into the British Open as two of the top golfers to beat, with the sportsbooks also laying out prop odds for the major event.

The four-time major winner is going off at +1600 on the odds to win the Open Championship at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The only player with better odds of winning the tournament on the board is Dustin Johnson, who is going off at +1200 to win the event.
And taking both Johnson and McIlroy vs. the rest of the field is a +650 proposition on the British Open prop odds, with the field going off at -1200. Other options include Tiger Woods, Justin Thomas and Brooks Koepka (+700) vs. the field (-1400), and Justin Rose and Jon Rahm (+850) vs. the field (-2000). Johnson and McIlroy seem like a strong option given how well Johnson is playing this year and how well McIlroy plays in this event every year.
Odds by nationality props provide bettors with another way of betting on their favorite golfers without simply having to focus on who will win the tournament. Rory McIlroy is a -185 favorite to finish the Open Championship as the top Irish player ahead of Paul Dunne (+500), Shane Lowry (+500), Padraig Harrington (+700), and Darren Clarke (+2500).
The top Spaniard spot could be a tough one to call with Jon Rahm (+130) and Sergio Garcia (+165) looking to hold off Rafael Cabrera Bello (+450) and Jorge Campillo (+800).
What about which left handed golfer will have the best showing in the British Open? Phil Mickelson is a slight favorite at +125 over Bubba Watson (+175) and Brian Harman (+300) while Lin Yuxin is a long shot at +2000.
Other props for the tournament overall include “will there be a hole-in-one?” (Yes -115, No -115) and “will there be a playoff?” (Yes +300, No -450). Bettors looking to take a chance on a longshot occurrence can bet on a double eagle being shot in the tournament at +1800 or the winner going wire-to-wire by leading all four days at +1000.
