Since 2007, Joey Chestnut has dominated the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, winning the event 10 times in the last 11 years. The 34-year-old professional competitive eater, nicknamed Jaws, will look to defend his title this Wednesday and win the $10,000 top prize in New York City.
Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest odds: Betting favorite Chestnut looks to continue dominance
Joey Chestnut and Matt Stonie will battle it out in the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on Wednesday, with the sportsbooks siding with Jaws for the event.

Chestnut is a -550 favorite on the hot dog eating contest odds with the field going off at +325 at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In the days leading up to the event, Chestnut has shown plenty of confidence, claiming that he will be shooting for the world record in this event on Wednesday. He has broken his own record in each of the last two years, consuming 70 hot dogs in 10 minutes in 2016 and 72 hot dogs in 2017.
The only person who has managed to defeat Joey Chestnut over the last 11 years is Matt Stonie, who snapped an eight-year winning streak with his victory in 2015. Chestnut won this event with 68 hot dogs in 2012 and 69 hot dogs in 2013, but fell off with performances of 61 in 2014 and 60 in 2015. Stonie was there to take advantage of the former champion’s off day, scoring the win with 62 hot dogs consumed.
The 2015 champion is going off at +350 to top Chestnut again this year in a head-to-head prop bet between the two.
Fans of these two competitive eaters can bet on their paces at both the one-minute mark and the five-minute mark. Chestnut’s total for the first minute is set at 12.5 (Over -130, Under -110) and for five minutes is set at 46 (Over +135, Under -175). Stonie’s totals are set at nine hot dogs in the first minute (Over -150, Under +110) and 36.5 at five minutes (Over -135, Under -105).
Should Chestnut’s record attempt be successful, the OVER 72.5 hot dogs eaten by the winner prop would pay nicely at +150. The UNDER 72.5 is set at -200.
Sonya Thomas won this event on the women’s side three straight times from 2011 to 2013, but has since been surpassed by Miki Sudo who has won each of the last four Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contests on the women’s side. Sudo is a -500 betting favorite to finish on top of Thomas (+300) again in 2018.
