Los Angeles Dodgers
When the Dodgers traded for Manny Machado and Brian Dozier, the plan was to run away with the NL West and a sixth straight division title. But things haven’t gone according to plan thus far for the Dodgers who are just 12-14 in 26 games since the all-star break.
Machado is stuck on just two home runs, 11 runs and seven RBI through his first 26 games in Dodger Blue, numbers far below his career averages in Baltimore.
Walker Buehler has pitched well in his first year as a starter with a 3.32 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. Despite these solid stats, Los Angeles is 5-7 in his last 12 starts and 1-3 in his last four.
Seattle Mariners
With a four-game sweep over the Houston Astros last week, the Mariners clawed their way back into contention for the top spot in the AL West and in the crowded wild card race.
Seattle’s 70-52 record would be second only to the Chicago Cubs in the National League, but in the American League the Mariners sit behind both Houston and the Oakland A’s in their own division and Oakland and the New York Yankees in the wild card hunt. The Mariners are 0-5 in their last five games as a home underdog according to the OddsShark MLB Database.
Friday night’s total is set at eight runs. The OVER is 4-1 in the last five games between the Dodgers and Mariners.
With both teams currently sitting on the outside looking in for a playoff spot, all three games in this series will be of critical importance. Rich Hill will take on Erasmo Ramirez on Saturday night and Clayton Kershaw will face Marco Gonzalez in the series finale on Sunday afternoon
