Just when it looked like the A’s might finally be cooling off after getting swept by the Colorado Rockies, the team rebounded with six straight wins in back-to-back sweeps of their own over the Toronto Blue Jays and the Detroit Tigers.
Shortly after sweeping the Tigers on Sunday, the Athletics made a deal with Detroit for pitcher Mike Fiers to help strengthen their pitching staff. Oakland is usually known for its excellent pitching, but this year’s squad ranks sixth in the majors in runs per game with 4.76 and fourth in home runs with 153.

Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers were hoping that trade acquisitions of Manny Machado and Brian Dozier would help to put the team over the top in the crowded NL West.
