Rangers have stayed perfect to start the season, defeating their Old Firm rivals 3-1 to push them to a perfect 27 points from nine matches. Celtic dropped points for the first time this year and while Rangers’ third goal was controversial, it was a deserved win for Gers.
Derby Recap: Celtic 1-3 Rangers
Kenny Miller stole the show with his winner and later penalty kick goal, scoring a brace and taking his SPL goal tally to 13 goals, but it was Steven Davis and Maurice Edu that were the real story. Midfield is where Celtic were outplayed and the athletic and tackling ability of those two players is why Rangers were the better side on the night. Miller’s goal tally sure is impressive, though. His 13 goals are more than double the next best scorer in the SPL.
On the box score, Celtic is listed as having 63% of the possession and eight more shots than Rangers. It certainly didn’t feel like this at all during the match. Between those stats and the penalty given on the dive by Broadfoot, it might seem fair for someone who didn’t watch the match to conclude that Celtic were unlucky, but that was hardly the case. Rangers would have won without the dive and were the better team, and now appear to be in the driver’s seat for the SPL crown.
