Beyond being the latest installment of a hugely popular franchise, “FIFA 11” is a fantastic game, if you believe Metacritic’s aggregation. That’s the sort of magic confluence of events that has made it the fastest-selling sports video game ever, selling 2.6 million copies in just 11 days.
We Are All Buying FIFA 11: 2.6 Million Sold In 11 Days Makes It Fastest-Selling Sports Video Game Ever
↵“FIFA” has apparently avoided the lull that “Madden” hit in 2009, when sales fell despite a critically-acclaimed entry in a long-running series. But it’s also dwarfed “Madden 11,” which sold 1.8 million copies in August.
↵Part of that is likely thanks to a combination of the U.S. and Europe markets — “Madden” doesn’t enjoy as much popularity in the Old World, stunningly — but it’s still a staggering number. EA Sports estimates that “FIFA 11” made $150 million in those 11 days. That’s not entirely comparable to a movie opening, but it’s a figure squarely in The Dark Knight territory.
