Spurs have gone up 4-0 in the 75th minute thanks to a goal from Gareth Bale. Just six minutes earlier, in the 69th minute, Peter Crouch scored off of a comical piece of defending by Gael Givet. Let’s address that one first.
Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Blackburn Rovers: Crouch Scores, Givet Weeps, Bale Piles On The Misery
On a counter-attack, Luka Modric hit a shot that was well saved by Paul Robinson. The ball fell to the feet of Givet who had no idea what to do with it, giving it away to Peter Crouch. The robot beanstalk finished easily. The give-away was spectacular, truly awe inspiring. When you watch the highlights of this match, instead of the default “Fire” by Kasabian, put the video on mute and play “Yakety Sax,” the Benny Hill theme music. It will be perfect, I promise.
Richard Farley, our SBNation.com Soccer editor described the goal in our editor’s room as “Something out of a FIFA game where someone doesn’t know the controls.” I can just picture it now.
Player controlling Blackburn: “Crap dude what’s clear?!?”
Player controlling Spurs: “The same as shoot, you idiot.”
Player controlling Blackburn: “What button is shoot?”
Player controlling Spurs: “The one I just hit. 3-0!”
Player controlling Blackburn: “Dude, screw you, I’m not playing video games with you anymore.”
Not much later, Gareth Bale struck again, giving him a goal and two assists on the evening. Rafael van der Vaart controlled the ball in the box, although it appeared with his arm, and passed it into the path of Bale. The Spurs winger made no mistake about it and slotted it home, giving Spurs a 4-0 lead in the 75th.
