Unsurprisingly, Fiorentina and Cesena have played a fairly even first half due to their almost matching formations. Fiorentina have had a little bit more of the play, but Cesena have been successful in their endeavor to keep a clean sheet.

Adrian Mutu was substituted off in the 41st minute due to an injury, the severity of which isn’t apparent. Adem Ljajic came on as in place in what should be close to a like for like change. Ljajic was the regular starter in the beginning of the season before Mutu recovered from his injury and has performed well off the bench since Mutu’s return, so Fiorentina’s attack should still be formidable.
While Cesena’s formation appeared to be a 4-4-1-1 on the initial team sheet, it was in reality a very rigid 4-5-1 or 4-3-3, depending on who you ask. Bogdani and Gimenez are playing on either side of Giaccherini with Parolo, Schelotto, and Colucci playing in the middle. Those middle three have been playing very well and should allow Massimo Ficcadenti to keep Stephen Appiah rested.
The Mutu injury has taken away one of Fiorentina’s tactical subs, but they will still be considering making some changes. Cesena have been successful in stifling their attack and it seems unlikely that they will find a goal solely based on talent.
