The lucky fans of the Mexican Primera get to watch the last match of the regular season knowing that there is something serious at stake. America are locked into the third seed in Liguilla, but have selected a first choice team to contend with a desperate Pumas side. This is a derby, after all. Both teams hail from Mexico City and both sets of fans get pretty into the match, no matter what is at stake.
Club America vs. Pumas de la U.N.A.M.: Pre-Match Primer
Pumas have a tough task in front of them, but there is no math and there are no complications involved. Win and they go to Liguilla. Draw or lose, they do not. With the knowledge that nothing that a win will do, Pumas have selected an extremely attacking team.
Club America lineup (4-4-2): Ochoa / Rojas, Valenzuela, Mosquera, Layun / Marquez, Reyna, Pardo, Rosinei / Sanchez, Vuoso
Pumas de la U.N.A.M. lineup (4-4-2/4-2-4): Bernal / Chiapas, Palacios, Veron, Velarde / Augusto, Castro / Palencia, Bravo, Lopez, Cortes
Palencia and Cortes could be classified as the left and right midfielders in a 4-4-2 setup, but expect them to bomb forward more and track back less than the wingers usually do in a traditional 4-4-2, or at least certainly less than Marquez and Rosinei will for America. Pumas has played this aggressively before, starting the same front four last week against Necaxa, but not away from home and not against this level of competition.
It should be a thriller, check it out at 5:30 pm ET on Telefutura.
