We’re already underway from Estadio Alfonso Lastras, and Telefutura made sure to mess that up, getting us there five minutes into the match. No, I’m not joking. The teams have selected teams that line up in different formations and utilize different strategies, so it should be an interesting one.
San Luis vs. Club America: Lineups, Analysis, Shenanigans
San Luis lineup (4-3-3): Lozano / Castillo, Hernandez, Matellan, Ponce / Alcontar, Correa, Torres / Medina, de la Torre, Aguirre
Club America lineup (4-4-2): Ochoa / Rojas, Mosquera, Valenzuela, Layun / Sanchez, Rosinei, Pardo, Esqueda / Vuoso, Palacios
If you want to call America’s setup a 4-2-4, that’s not totally inaccurate. A lot of people would consider Vicente Sanchez and Enrique Esqueda to be more forwards than they are midfielders. They’ve pushed high up the pitch so far and created some scoring opportunities. San Luis’s system is probably a bit more fluid than America’s, but it’s not like anyone is Martin O’Neill here. This is the Mexican Primera, and there will be plenty of roaming and flair.
In the early going, both teams have had plenty of scoring opportunities. Both goalkeepers, Cesar Lozano and Memo Ochoa, have been fantastic to start the match, keeping the scoreline at 0-0 early. Both players have been forced into arguably world class saves and risen to the occasion.
