After playing 80 minutes last night on national team duty for Ecuador, Cristian Benitez is in the starting lineup for Santos. Benitez is Mexico’s scoring leader, and apparently he is also crazy. And possibly on amphetamines. Felipe Baloy, who was called up to play for his native Panama last night, is also in the starting lineup. Jackson Martinez, Jaguares’ target man, played last night for Colombia and will not start tonight.
Jaguares de Chiapas vs. Santos Laguna: Pre-Match Primer
Jaguares Lineup (4-4-1-1): Villalpando / Serrano, Fuentes, Zamora, Martinez / Rodriguez, Cabrera, Razo, Hernandez / Danilinho / Ochoa
Santos Lineup (4-4-2 diamond): Sanchez / Estrada, Olivera, Baloy, Lacerda / Rodriguez, Arce, Morales, Ludueña / Quintero, Benitez
Jackson Martinez of Jaguares is available off the bench. Santos are the better passing side and have proven very good at keeping the ball for long stretches this year. A direct style of play isn’t as easy for Jaguares with Martinez out of the lineup, but Ochoa is a very good balanced forward who can do a lot of things for his team. For Jaguares to get the win that they need at home, Jorge Rodriguez and Danilinho will have to find the ball and create going forward. For Santos, they have to be wondering how long Chucho Benitez can go.
The game is underway, check it out on Azteca America.
