Despite bringing on Jackson Martinez in the 66th minute, Jaguares failed to score in the second half and have left themselves with an extremely tough task Sunday at Estadio Corona. Santos created more chances, Felipe Baloy was brilliant yet again, and incredibly, Christian Benitez played all 90 minutes.
Jaguares de Chiapas vs. Santos Laguna: 1-1 Full Time, Advantage Santos
Yes, that means that Chucho played 170 minutes in 24 hours, truly an incredible feat. He failed to find the back of the net, but had a good match holding up the ball and helping his team to both create attacks and retain possession. He never looked tired, but it was still stunning when Santos made their third substitution and Benitez remained on the pitch.
The best two players on the pitch for either team were Santos central defender Felipe Baloy and playmaker Daniel Ludueña. Juan Rodriguez of Santos was also very good and made Baloy’s job easier by limiting the number of quality touches that Danilinho of Jaguares was able to get on the ball.
Jaguares played well, but they couldn’t bridge the gap in talent between themselves and Santos to the degree they needed to in order to get a win. Even on a rare day where Chucho didn’t score, Santos were just too good to defeat. Jaguares now face the extremely difficult task of winning at Estadio Corona.
