Birmingham City Vs. Chelsea: Lee Bowyer Puts Home Side Up At St. Andrews, 1-0

Lee Bowyer's goal against Chelsea comes totally against the run of play in the 17th minute. A cross from the right side fell beautifully for Birmingham City, allowing Cameron Jerome to cushion the ball with his head. The header fell to Bowyer, who tucked it in from eight yards. The goal is the first for the midfielder in his last forty appearances.

Just 17 minutes in and Birmingham City have already exposed the weakness in Chelsea's defense. With John Terry out for an indefinite period of time, Branislav Ivanovic and Alex are paired in central defense, with Paulo Ferreira on the right. Alex allowed Bowyer plenty of space in which to work, while Ferreira did nothing to help prevent the goal.

While Chelsea are continuing to apply pressure at St. Andrews, with the normally tight Birmingham City defense looking a little exposed at the back. Fortunately for the home side, keeper Ben Foster has denied both Didier Drogba and Ashley Cole with two excellent saves.
