The first round of Saturday matches were business as usual in the Mexican Primera, as Jaguares did what was expected of them while San Luis and Santos played to a draw.
San Luis 1-1 Santos, Jaguares 2-1 Atlas: Full Time Updates
The first half of the match between San Luis and Santos was scoreless, though not uneventful, as both teams had stretches of dominant play and tested each others’ goals. Both teams scored early in the second half, with Cristian Benitez not surprisingly opening the account. His shot hit the left post, then the back of the net in the 53rd minute. Only four minutes later, San Luis equalized on a great direct free kick. Diego de la Torre placed his effort perfectly, beating Osvaldo Sanchez to knot the match at one, which is how it would end.
Jaguares did what they were supposed to do with a win over Atlas, giving them some security in the race for the Liguilla. They struck quickly, opening the scoring in the 13th minute. Off of a corner kick, Omar Flores headed the ball backwards, into the path of Oscar Razo for an easy finish at the far post, which just happened to be Razo’s first goal of the season. Fabricio Fuentes surprised everyone when he hit his equalizer in the 59th minute, but big target man Jackson Martinez restored order to the evening when he scored the eventual winner in the 74th,
