It’s halftime at the Sao Paolo and despite wave after wave of pressure from the home side, Napoli have yet to score a goal. Although the Partenopei managed to cut open the Lecce defense within the first few minutes of the match, the visitors have regrouped and have made good work of shutting down the Napoli offensive threat. It helps, of course, that Lecce have showed very little concern with going forward, and haven’t looked convincing the few times they’ve had a shot on goal.
Italian Serie A Sunday: Napoli v Lecce--Nothing But A Bunch Of Zeros At The Sao Paolo
Napoli are well known this season for scoring last-minute goals in dramatic fashion, but will they have one in them today? They've enjoyed the majority of the possession but have managed to do almost nothing with it. Andrea Dossena has found himself in good position to slot Edinson Cavani the ball, and yet has managed to misplay his cross at least twice, leaving the Uruguayan stranded. On the other side of the pitch, Juan Zúñiga, replacing Ezequiel Lavezzi, appears to like playing his passes to Lecce players. While Lavezzi hasn't had many goals this season, it's obvious Napoli are missing his presence in the front. With Lavezzi present, the front three are much more fluid, with any of Cavani, Lavezzi and Marek Hamsik popping up on either side of the field to create havoc on opposing defenses.
With Juventus currently ahead against Chievo, Napoli need to find at least one goal today to grab three points and avoid being pushed into fourth place before the winter break.
