The Blues started the play by winning a ball in midfield, just inside their own half, when Michael Essien, coming back for the ball, played a pass backwards, seemingly for Ashley Cole. But Cole wasn't expecting the pass and reacted after Theo Walcott, who streaked onto the ball and in on goal. When Petr Cech came out to meat him, Walcott laid a ball off for the oncoming Cesc Fàbregas, who finished into the empty net.
