Steven Gerrard is still operating in the center, but he’s still ineffective as well. The 27th minute saw him play a decent ball into the box that Wayne Hennessey picked up before David N’Gog could get to it, and that is the only significant attacking impact that Stevie G has had to this point. His time on the ball in dangerous positions has been extremely limited.
GerrardTracker: After 30 Minutes, Stevie G Still Ineffective, Kuyt Not Shadowing Jarvis
Liverpool are yet to find a way around the pressing and swarming defense of Wolves. It seems like Liverpool went into this game expecting a Wolves team that would back off of them, and they haven’t seen anything like that at all. The Anfield faithful seem to be growing restless.
As an interesting tactical aside, Wolves had a dangerous looking moment when Matt Jarvis made a surging run down the left flank. Despite Jarvis switching sides, Dirk Kuyt did not switch over to his side and remained on the left. With Kuyt no longer shadowing him, Jarvis was free to make a play.
