Replicating on of the most common acts of idiocy in world football, Wigan's Charles N'Zogbia has been dismissed at the DW for headbutting Jack Wilshire. In the 77th minute, with Wigan having just threatened to equalize (twice), the French winger ended a confrontation with Wilshire by putting his forehead into his counterpart's face. True, Wilshire's legs seemed to collapse before his hear reacted, but it was an obligatory punishment. N'Zogbia is gone. Straight red card.
Wigan Vs. Arsenal: Charles N’Zogbia Gets Himself Sent Off, Long Live The Head Butt
I have no clue why footballers continue to do this. you would think that the controversy surrounding World Cup 2006 would have seen headbutting curbed, but if anything the attacks are more frequent. Two players butt chests and try to tempt a headbutt out of the other, whomever gives in first to be met by a collapsing opponent and a red card. Everybody should know this is going to happen, so why even engage? Push the guy in the chest. Yell at him. Whatever - just don’t head butt him.
The stranger part: How many times in your day-to-day life are you motivated to headbutt somebody? If somebody cuts you off in traffic, do you think ‘Oh, if I could only head butt you!’ Long line at the bank? Head butts! Guy at the grocery store breaks out a check book? Head butt. Pissed at yourself because you can’t find your keys? Head butt!
It’s not a natural response. It isn’t logical, either, So why is Charles N’Zogbia in the locker room. Because footballers are unnatural and illogical. I guess.
Arsenal still leads Wigan, 2-1.
